Frequently Asked Questions

What does Vet Validaite do?
Vet Validaite provides independent expert validation of AI tools developed for animal health. We assess tools against relevant best-practice standards and provide clear, structured feedback to help developers demonstrate their commitment to quality, continuous improvement of their products and build trust with veterinary customers.
Why should we have our AI independently validated?
Independent validation provides evidence that your tool has been assessed beyond your own internal testing and marketing claims. It can help strengthen credibility, customer confidence and competitive differentiation, particularly as animal health organisations become more rigorous in how they evaluate AI technologies.
What is the validation process?
  1. Sign up to the Vet Validaite platform to view the standards questionnaire
  2. Complete the questionnaire and submit evidence where required. View your score as you go to see how your tool is performing.
  3. Once you're satisfied with your entry and have completed the questionnaire, submit it for our human expert reviewers to confirm how well your tool meets the standards
  4. Benefit from two-way discussion and advice on areas for improvement prior to finalisation of the validation report.
  5. Receive your validation report and Vet Validaite badge to share through your marketing channels and via the Vet Validaite website.
  6. Undergo periodic revalidation to maintain your Vet Validaite badge
PLEASE NOTE: Vet Validaite will only publish validation reports in agreement with the AI company. Validations will be time-limited due to the changing nature of AI tools, with a minimum of annual review and revalidation.
Do we have to pay to view the standards?
No! Vet Validaite is committed to supporting best practice development of AI and all our standards will be openly published once finalised, with a full explanation of the development process.
What does the validation process assess?
Our assessment considers the factors that underpin responsible, effective AI, including areas such as clinical relevance, performance evidence, data quality, transparency, intended use, human oversight, governance, security and ongoing monitoring.
What do we receive after validation?
You receive a clear validation output explaining how your tool performs against the applicable criteria, together with any areas requiring improvement. Tools that successfully meet the relevant requirements may also be eligible for a Vet Validaite validation badge and inclusion within our validated-tools platform, helping customers identify independently assessed technologies.
Can Vet Validaite help us improve our product?
Yes. Validation is not simply a pass-or-fail exercise. Our independent assessment can highlight evidence gaps and opportunities for improvement, helping your team strengthen the product, supporting documentation and user experience.
How will validation help us?
Buyers within veterinary and animal health increasingly need to demonstrate that procurement decisions are evidence-based and defensible. Independent validation gives prospective customers and users an additional layer of assurance and provides your commercial team with credible evidence to support conversations with clinical, procurement and technology stakeholders. It also makes your products more attractive to investors.
Can validation help overcome customer concerns about AI?
Yes. Concerns about lack of transparency, reliability, inappropriate use, data, integration and trust can become significant barriers to adoption. Clear independent evidence about what a tool does, how it has been assessed and where its limitations lie can help customers make more informed decisions and use the technology confidently and appropriately.
Does Vet Validaite replace regulatory approval?
No. Vet Validaite validation is independent assurance, not regulatory authorisation or certification, and it does not replace any legal or regulatory requirements that apply to your product. Instead, it helps demonstrate alignment with recognised best-practice expectations and supports responsible adoption.
Is validation only useful once our product is finished?
No. Engaging earlier can help identify evidence or design gaps before they become expensive to address. Vet Validaite can support developers at different stages, from preparing for independent assessment through to validation of established products and reassessment as technologies evolve.
What is the commercial value for an AI company?
Independent validation can help you build trust, differentiate your technology, improve your product and reduce friction in the buying process. Ultimately, it helps veterinary customers understand why they should trust your AI and how they can use it safely and effectively.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Vet Validaite do?
Vet Validaite provides independent expert validation of AI tools used in animal health. We assess tools against relevant best-practice standards so veterinary professionals can make more informed decisions about which technologies to trust, adopt and use in practice.
Why does independent AI validation matter?
AI tools can make impressive claims, but it is not always easy for a user to assess the quality of the evidence behind them and the appropriateness for their particular situation - be that in a veterinary clinic, on farm or at home with a beloved pet. Independent validation helps clarify what an AI tool has been designed to do, for which animal species and breed, how easy it is to use, how well it performs, and where its limitations lie.
How can Vet Validaite help me choose an AI tool?
Our assessments are designed to make comparison and selection of AI tools easier and safer. We help users understand the evidence, risks and practical considerations associated with different tools so they can decide whether a product is safe, appropriate, relevant to the needs of their animals and worth the investment.
What does a Vet Validaite validation badge mean?
A Vet Validaite badge indicates that a tool has undergone an independent assessment against defined best-practice criteria. Validation provides a layer of assurance beyond the claims made by the developer or supplier. It’s a sign they are committed to transparency, continuous improvement, and responsible development and use of AI.
Should all AI tools be getting top marks?
No! The validation framework is extremely robust and aspirations. It is based on best practice principles, many of which are challenging to achieve. Companies are unlikely to achieve top scores across all the areas - which would be nearly impossible as no AI tool will ever be perfect - whether it’s for animals or other uses. Rather, a Vet Validaite report shows a voluntary commitment to independent evaluation and continuous improvement and is a signal of responsibility and trustworthiness.
Does validation mean an AI tool is completely risk-free?
No. No technology is completely without risk. Validation helps identify and communicate important considerations such as performance limitations, appropriate use, data protection, human oversight, communication and potential sources of error so that users can make better-informed decisions.
Can Vet Validaite help me understand how an AI tool should be used?
Yes. Clear information about intended use is central to safe AI adoption. Our validation outputs are designed to help users understand what a tool can and cannot do, when its outputs can be useful and where human judgement remains essential.
Will using validated AI replace clinical judgement?
No. AI should support animal health professionals, never replace them. Even well-performing tools need to be used within an appropriate setting and context, with users understanding their limitations and retaining responsibility for professional decision-making.
What kinds of issues do you consider?
Depending on the technology, we consider factors including species, breed, geography, clinical evidence, data quality, transparency, reliability, privacy and security, workflow integration, human oversight, ongoing monitoring and reporting and flagging of errors.
Can Vet Validaite help reduce the risk of choosing the wrong tool?
That is one of the main aims of independent validation. Better information can reduce the risk of investing in technology with weak evidence, inappropriate design, training data that is not relevant to the use-case, unsuitable functionality, unexpected implementation burdens or limitations that only become apparent after purchase.
How can validated AI benefit me and my team?
Appropriate AI has the potential to save time, improve consistency, support clinical decision-making and reduce administrative burden. Independent validation helps users identify tools that are more likely to deliver those benefits while recognising and managing the associated risks.
Is Vet Validaite validation the same as regulatory approval?
No. Vet Validaite provides independent assurance rather than regulatory authorisation or certification. Our validation complements applicable regulation, professional standards, organisational governance and individual clinical judgement.
What is the overall benefit for me as an AI user?
Vet Validaite is designed to make AI tools easier to evaluate and safer to adopt. Our aim is to give veterinary professionals greater clarity, confidence and control when deciding which AI tools are appropriate for their patients, clients and teams.

For Organisations

Successful integration of robust artificial intelligence tools will be absolutely key to the management and care of animals now and into the future. Vet Validaite exists to support decision making, reduce risk and build trust through appropriate selection and use of AI tools, helping you to compare applications and find the best value and fit for your organisation and needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Vet Validaite do?
Vet Validaite provides independent expert validation of AI tools for animal health. Our team of human experts assess AI applications against relevant best-practice standards and translate the findings into clear, practical information to support confident decisions about procurement, deployment and use.
Why should we independently validate an AI tool?
AI vendors may make impressive claims, but it can be difficult to determine how well those claims are supported by evidence and how relevant they are to your use case. Independent validation helps you understand a tool’s performance, limitations, risks and suitability for its intended use, reducing reliance on vendor claims alone.
What does Vet Validaite assess?
Our validation considers the evidence and processes that underpin trustworthy AI, including areas such as clinical performance, data quality and representativeness, transparency, governance, security, human oversight and ongoing monitoring. Assessment is tailored to the intended use and risk profile of the tool.
How can Vet Validaite help with AI procurement?
We make AI due diligence simpler. Our independent reports provide a clear and comparable evidence base to help procurement, clinical and technology teams identify appropriate tools, compare options and make defensible purchasing decisions.
Can you compare different AI tools?
Yes. We can help organisations evaluate competing AI solutions against consistent criteria, making it easier to understand their relative strengths, limitations and risks rather than comparing variable vendor claims on their own terms.
What happens after we choose an AI tool?
Safe AI adoption does not end with procurement. Vet Validaite can support implementation planning, governance, training and ongoing monitoring, helping organisations manage issues such as integration, clinician adoption, model updates and changing performance over time.
Will validation slow down AI adoption?
The aim is the opposite. Good due diligence early in the process can identify problems before significant time and money are committed. Clear evidence can also make it easier to build clinical confidence and supports organisational governance, enabling faster and safer adoption of appropriate AI.
Is Vet Validaite validation the same as regulatory approval?
No. Independent validation does not replace applicable regulatory requirements, organisational governance or clinical judgement. It provides an additional layer of transparency and assurance, helping organisations understand whether an AI tool is supported by evidence and appropriate for its proposed use.
Do you also work with AI developers?
Yes. We work with developers who want to understand how to build and deploy responsible AI to benefit animals. We support developers to understand how their technology performs against best-practice expectations, identify areas for improvement and provide their prospective customers with credible, independently assessed evidence to support responsible adoption.
What is the ultimate benefit?
Better information leads to better AI decisions. Vet Validaite helps organisations adopt AI that delivers genuine clinical and business value while protecting animal patients, team members using AI, clients and organisational reputation.
